Piko is a large-scale chamber inspired by the lava tubes of the now dormant volcano Mauna Kea on the island of Kona, Hawaii.

Reimagined through hand formed aluminum, and illuminated with bands of neon that pulse akin to cooling magm. Piko, in Hawaiian ‘the navel’ creates a symbolic axis mundi - a passageway connecting the interior of the earth to the celestial space above. As participants step inside the ribbed aluminum chamber the participants walk around and through the magma reservoir and occupy the interstitial space of the volcano.
